About this project

Build an IoT-enabled prepaid smart energy meter for Indian households that measures consumption in real time, syncs with a utility-style cloud dashboard, detects 3 classes of electricity theft (bypass tampering, neutral disconnect, magnet near coil), and supports prepaid recharge via UPI.

CLO2: Design a multi-layer IoT system from sensor to cloud.
CLO3: Detect anomalies / tampering using rule-based + statistical methods.

CLO5: Validate accuracy against a calibrated reference energy meter.

1. Hardware Design + PCB

2. Firmware: Energy Measurement

Read kWh + voltage + current from ADE7758 over SPI. Calibrate against a known load (1kW heater). Accuracy within ±2%.
3. Cloud + Dashboard

MQTT publish to ThingsBoard. Dashboard shows realtime kWh, daily total, monthly bill. Multi-meter view for admin.
4. Theft Detection

Rule-based: bypass (mains current > sensor current), neutral disconnect, sudden zero-current under normal load. Alert via dashboard + SMS.
5. UPI Recharge + Final Demo

Generate UPI payment link, on payment confirm, top up remaining kWh balance via cloud → meter. Live demo + 12-page report.
