About this project

Objective: To engineer and demonstrate a scalable, low-power LoRa-based network for real-time remote monitoring of environmental and air quality parameters in urban and rural India.

Air pollution and environmental degradation pose significant health risks to millions across Indian cities and rural communities, with inadequate real-time data hampering effective local action. Current monitoring infrastructure is sparse, expensive, and inaccessible in remote or low-resource regions, limiting timely interventions by authorities and the public.

This project proposes a cost-effective, modular network of environmental sensor nodes using LoRa (Long Range) wireless technology, capable of transmitting air quality and climatic data over several kilometers to a centralized monitoring dashboard. The system leverages commercial off-the-shelf sensors, low-power microcontrollers, and industry-standard communication protocols for reliable, long-range, and energy-efficient operation, suitable for deployment in diverse Indian terrains.

Key features: Multi-parameter sensing (PM2.5, CO2, temperature, humidity), solar-powered node design, real-time LoRaWAN communication, local data logging, cloud dashboard visualization, and alert mechanisms. The working model will demonstrate a live multi-node network with at least two remote sensor units and a central gateway, validating range, accuracy, and reliability under real-world conditions.

Scalability: The solution can be extended for smart city, industrial, and rural environmental monitoring, aiding government agencies, NGOs, and smart agriculture initiatives. The project fosters practical skills in IoT, embedded systems, and wireless networking, directly relevant to the Indian electronics and IoT industry.
