Energy-Efficiency Benchmarking Dashboard for Indian Commercial Buildings

Objective: To design and implement a dashboard that benchmarks energy efficiency of commercial buildings in India using real data, enabling actionable insights for facility managers.

India faces a significant challenge in optimizing energy consumption in its rapidly expanding commercial building sector, where inefficient energy use leads to high costs and environmental impact. Facility managers and building owners often lack easy-to-use tools to compare their building's energy performance against peers and identify improvement opportunities.

The project will involve collecting and analyzing publicly available energy consumption datasets (such as BEE's State Energy Efficiency Index, ECBC compliance reports, and Smart Meter data where available) and surveying commercial buildings. The team will identify key benchmarking metrics (kWh/sqft, peak demand, etc.), normalize data for climate and usage type, and design a user-friendly dashboard using BI tools.

Deliverables include: a functional benchmarking dashboard (in Power BI or Tableau), a documented methodology for data normalization and peer grouping, a sample analysis of 10-20 buildings, and a report with actionable recommendations for facility managers.

This solution will help stakeholders quickly assess their building's relative energy performance, prioritize efficiency upgrades, and support compliance with India’s energy policies, directly informing operational and investment decisions for energy management teams.
