About this project

Objective: To evaluate the financial health and audit risk of a selected NSE-listed firm through detailed financial-statement and ratio analysis, informing stakeholders on critical risk areas and improvement opportunities.

Problem & Context: In India, listed companies face increasing scrutiny from regulators and investors regarding their financial transparency and risk management. Accurate financial-statement analysis, coupled with audit-risk assessment, is essential for stakeholders to detect red flags, ensure compliance, and make informed decisions. Recent high-profile accounting failures have amplified the need for robust evaluation frameworks.

Approach/Methodology: The student team will select a real NSE-listed company and collect its last three years’ annual reports and financial statements. Using standard accounting and audit frameworks, the team will conduct ratio analysis, trend analysis, and identify potential financial and audit risks. Industry benchmarks and peer comparisons will be integrated to contextualize findings. Audit-risk assessment will be performed using frameworks such as the Audit Risk Model and relevant ICAI/IFRS guidance.

Deliverables & Analysis: Outputs include a structured report covering detailed ratio analysis, financial trends, identification of irregularities or risk areas, an audit-risk assessment matrix, and actionable recommendations for risk mitigation or process improvement. The analysis will be supported with data visualizations and benchmarking against industry standards.

Business Impact & Decision: The project informs management and external stakeholders (investors, auditors, regulators) about the company’s financial strengths, weaknesses, and areas of audit concern, supporting better governance, investment decisions, and audit planning.
