About this project

Objective: To provide real-time, localized climate-resilient farming recommendations for smallholder farmers in vulnerable regions.

Smallholder farmers in India face increasing challenges from erratic weather, droughts, and floods due to climate change, threatening their livelihoods and food security. Many lack access to timely, localized climate information and practical crop management advice, especially in underserved rural areas. This aligns with SDG 13 - Climate Action, targeting resilience-building for vulnerable agricultural communities.

The project proposes a low-cost, mobile-based advisory platform that integrates open climate data, regional weather forecasts, and crop-specific guidance. By leveraging satellite and meteorological datasets, it delivers actionable alerts and recommendations tailored to the farmer’s location, crop type, and current weather risks.

Key features include geo-tagged weather alerts, climate-resilient crop suggestions, pest/disease early warnings, and simple voice/text interfaces for low-literacy users. The working prototype will be tested with real smallholder farmers, with feedback loops for usability and local adaptation.

Measurable impact includes improved farm decision-making and reduced crop losses, tracked via farmer surveys and yield data. The solution is designed for scalability across regions, leveraging open-data APIs and partnerships with local NGOs for wider deployment.

Milestones
