Digital Assistant for Gig Worker Rights and Grievance Redressal

Objective: Enable gig workers in India to access rights, benefits, and grievance resources through a user-friendly digital platform.

India's rapidly growing gig economy, encompassing delivery personnel, ride-hailing drivers, freelance workers, and others, faces significant challenges related to awareness of labor rights, access to social security schemes, and transparent grievance redressal. Many gig workers, especially from underserved and low-income communities, lack clear information about their entitlements and struggle with opaque dispute resolution processes. This area aligns directly with SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, focusing on improving livelihoods and labor conditions for vulnerable populations.

The proposed solution is a mobile-first digital assistant that aggregates and simplifies information about gig worker rights, government and private benefit schemes, and provides guided pathways for lodging grievances with relevant authorities or platforms. The assistant uses multilingual support, conversational interfaces, and open-data APIs for real-time scheme updates, aiming to bridge the information and access gap for gig workers.

Key features include scheme eligibility checks using open datasets, step-by-step grievance filing guidance, status tracking, and a repository of frequently asked questions sourced from labor departments and NGOs. The prototype will be tested with actual gig workers and refined based on their feedback, ensuring usability and accessibility.

Measurable impact will be demonstrated via increased awareness of rights, improved access to benefits, and faster grievance redressal rates among pilot users. The platform is designed for scalability, allowing integration with local languages, NGOs, and government schemes to reach millions of gig workers across India.
