Clean Cookstove Adoption and Impact-Tracking Web Platform for Rural India

Objective: To enable rural households to adopt clean cookstoves and track their usage and health impacts using a digital platform.

Millions of rural households in India rely on traditional biomass-based cookstoves, which contribute to indoor air pollution and adverse health outcomes, particularly affecting women and children. This issue directly relates to SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy and impacts vulnerable communities lacking access to clean cooking solutions.

The proposed solution is a mobile-friendly web platform that guides households through clean cookstove options, facilitates registration and adoption, and enables periodic impact tracking via surveys and sensor integration. The platform will allow NGOs, local health workers, and policymakers to monitor adoption rates and health improvements, increasing transparency and encouraging scale.

Key features include: cookstove information and selection tool, digital adoption registry, integration with open-source air quality sensors, periodic health and usage survey modules, and real-time impact dashboards for stakeholders. The prototype will be tested with real user data from select pilot villages, leveraging open datasets and APIs for context and validation.

The measurable impact includes reduced indoor air pollution, improved respiratory health, and increased adoption rates of clean cookstoves. The platform's scalable design can support expansion to new regions, facilitating data-driven decision-making and targeted interventions by NGOs and energy access programs.
