About this project

Objective: Develop a digital dashboard to optimize real-time shelter and resource allocation for disaster-affected communities in cyclone and landslide-prone regions.

India faces recurrent cyclones and landslides, particularly in coastal and hilly states, causing loss of life, displacement, and resource shortages. The National Disaster Management Authority and State Disaster Response Forces are tasked with ensuring timely shelter allocation and resource distribution, but current processes suffer from fragmented data and slow coordination. This challenge impacts vulnerable populations, including rural families, urban slum dwellers, and emergency responders, and aligns with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).

The proposed solution is a web-based dashboard that aggregates open geospatial, demographic, and resource data to enable district administrators and disaster response teams to visualize available shelters, track occupancy, allocate relief resources, and plan evacuations in real-time. The system will integrate multiple data sources (ISRO Bhuvan, OpenStreetMap, data.gov.in) and allow dynamic updates during disaster events.

Key features include: interactive maps of shelters and vulnerable zones, real-time shelter occupancy, resource inventory management, evacuation route planning, and push notifications for responders. The prototype will demonstrate live data integration, user interface for decision-makers, and basic analytics for impact assessment, delivered as a deployable web/mobile dashboard.

Measurable impact will be seen in faster, more equitable shelter allocation, reduced response times, and improved transparency in disaster management. The solution is scalable across districts and states, enabling adoption by local authorities with minimal technical infrastructure.
